The motor on this unit is not detachable for cleaning. Since its armature and electrical connections are completely exposed to drips and splashes, expect a short and perhaps exciting life from the unit. There is no way this slicer can be made sanitary after slicing roasts and other wet foods. In contrast, my forty-year-old all-metal American-made slicer, still working fine, has a detachable motor/gearbox assembly, and is dishwasher safe. Pass on the Deni Classic II - it's unsafe at any price.
