In 2001, at the age of 29, Matthew became the Vice President of Design for Maitland-Smith, considered by most at that time to be the industry's leading company for the design and making of luxury accent furniture, lighting and accessories. Prior to becoming the company's design leader he traveled and directed the global sourcing efforts for new, unique and exciting materials to use on the company's newest and most innovative designs. During this time Matthew was also the head of the design and merchandising efforts for the lighting and accessory categories.

Before entering the home furnishings industry Matthew worked as an industrial designer. His designs for Rubbermaid were featured in Business Week's annual issue, “Best New Products of the Year” in 1995 and again in 1996. He also won Bronze and Silver international Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) related to those product designs. Matthew received his bachelor's of Industrial Design at the North Carolina State University College of Design where he was awarded the Merit Award by the faculty for best overall achievement in the field of study.

Today Matthew travels the world developing new items for your home. He is always looking for the next new thing and designing that special item that you will be proud to have in your home. For his designs he pushes the limits on form and composition achieving the most advanced look possible for today's market. His designs often invoke a story, theme or a feeling that leads to a desire to own them.

He is responsible for extending our operation in the Far East into exciting new places and infusing fresh new designs into our existing vendor base. After two generations of furniture manufacturing, Bob and Belle Cooper founded The Uttermost Company in 1975, and it is still 100% owned by the Cooper family. Bob and Belle continue to be involved in the business, but are not active in day-to-day activities. Mac Cooper, President/CEO, Taz Cooper, Exec VP/Sales Manager, and a strong management team operate the business today.

This West Coast facility has been added to increase distribution capacity, provide faster shipping to West Coast Retailers, and reduce freight costs to these Retailers.

Truck Freight Additional Information:

This product is too heavy/large to ship via the small package delivery services (e.g. UPS, FedEx) so it will be sent to you via truck freight. Truck freight is different than standard UPS, FedEx or US Mail in that you will be responsible for carrying the product from the back of the truck into your house (or wherever it's going).

The most important thing to remember about truck freight is that you MUST inspect the package at the time of delivery. If the box has any damage, or if there is any reason for you to be at all concerned about damage, please write "PRODUCT DAMAGED" clearly on the sheet that they ask you to sign. This simply insures that if there is any damage, it will be easy to take care of the problem.

If you are ordering a very large item, please keep in mind that you may need a couple of people to help unload it. Alternatively, most truck freight companies offer additional services to help you move items from the truck into your house. Once we email you the tracking information you can contact the shipper directly to inquire about additional services. You would be responsible for directly paying the truck freight carrier for any additional services.
